Tibet's Secret Temple: Body, Mind and Meditation in Tantric Buddhism

Event type:

City:

Date:
Thursday, 19 November 2015 to Sunday, 28 February 2016

'Tibet’s Secret Temple’ explores Tibetan Buddhist yogic and meditational practice and their connections to physical and mental wellbeing.

Inspired by an exquisite series of 17th century murals from a private meditation chamber for Tibet’s Dalai Lamas in Lhasa’s Lukhang Temple, the exhibition features over 120 objects including scroll paintings, statues, manuscripts, archival and contemporary film, together with a wide range of ethnographic and ritual artefacts. Three of the murals from the temple have been recreated, by photographer Thomas Laird, as life-sized digital artworks that form the centrepiece of the exhibition.

‘Tibet’s Secret Temple’, by bringing the mural images together with a unique set of objects, will uncover till now unseen stories behind the ancient, esoteric and once secret practices illustrated in the Lukhang murals and show their relevance to the expanding and wide-ranging contemporary interest in meditative wellbeing.

Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche Teachings and Empowerments London 2015

Friday 23rd of October:
Over the course of two days Khenpo Rinpoche will be conferring teachings and empowerments.
We have the great honour of hosting Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche who is one of the main teachers of the renowned Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, the largest Buddhist academy of its kind in the world. He trained closely with Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, one of the great luminairies of his generation.Teachings and Empowerments

2pm - 4pm: Teaching on 35 Buddhas Confession and Purification

  • The 35 Buddhas Confession prayers, otherwise known as the Sutra of Three Heaps, is a common confession prayer recited in the varoius schools of Mahayana Buddhism. It is used as an effective way to purify negative deeds and any breakages of vows and commitments related to the Pratimoksha and Bodhisattva vows. It is know as the "Sutra of Three Heaps" as the prayer has three distinct sections: 1) Hommage 2) Confession 3) Rejoicing and Dedication.
  • Purification is an important part of the dharma path. Over many lifetimes we have accumulated countless negative deeds commited with our body, speech and mind. These deeds pose an obstacle to our spiritual development and thus it is necessary to purifiy our minds through various skillful means.
  • DOORS OPEN for Registration at 1PM

7.30pm - 9.30pm: Thousand Buddhas Empowerment

Saturday 24th of October:

9.30am - 11.30am: Training in Compassion and Compassionate Action

  • Compassion is the essence of the Buddhas teachings. It is the wish to free all sentient beings from suffering and the causes of suffering. Being a key mental attitude that needs to be nurtured, it is the main cause for the acheivement of complete Enlightenment. The compassionate mental attitude can be described as being a positive wish or aspiration, and compassionate action can be described as the actual fulfillement of that wish. This amounts to any act that helps to alleviate the suffering of others in the short and long term by helping to bring others to complete Enlightenment.
  • DOORS OPEN for Regisration at 9:00AM

2pm - 4pm: Chenrezig Empowerment

  • Chenrezig, otherwise known as Avolakiteshvara (Skt.) or Quanyin (Chinese), is the embodiment of the love and compassion of all the Buddhas .
